Why Keep Making New Year Resolutions?

It’s the beginning of a new year and most of us have already made their list with new year resolutions. Is it to lose weight, to get more organized or to save more? Apparently, this is the top 3 of most popular resolutions in 2012. These resolutions are commitments that we make for one or more personal and/or professional goals. Being a commitment, this means that we have to stick to it and to do our best to honor it.

But what’s interesting is that in 2012 only 8% of people making resolutions had achieved them. Furthermore, 49% of people had infrequent success with their goals for the next year.

Hence my questions: what’s the point? Why keep making New Year resolutions?

Well, the end of the year seems the perfect time to reassess our goals, opportunities and accomplishments. It’s a sort of personal appraisal we all need to do in order to have a clear image of our priorities. It is useful to reflect on our past, present and future.

Almost everyone would like to live a better life, so first of all, we need to identify the areas of improvement in our personal and professional lives and then to start working on them. Once we know the changes we need to make, we are in control of our lives.

Antoher reason to make resolutions is to celebrate your results. If you are among the 8% mentioned above, the end of the year is a celebration of your dedication, hard work and commitment in achieving your goals.

So, if you haven’t done it yet, start making your own resolutions and strive to achieve all of them this year. You can use FutureMe to write your list and you’ll receive a message next year (or whenever you prefer); this way you can evaluate your results. On top of that, it’s fun!
